September Random Holidays – Add a Few Fun, Creative, and Random Holidays to Your Calendar

September Random Holidays - add some fun, creative, & random holidays to your calendar | ChocolateMusings.com #septemberrandomholidays #randomholidays #celebrate

With fall right around the corner and school back in full swing, schedules start filling up quickly. Here’s a little reminder to add some fun and enjoyment to your calendar with a few of these September Random Holidays.

One of the fun things about random holidays is that you can add these mini-celebrations to your schedule. They don’t require an entire day to celebrate. Sometimes, these random holidays might help you plan dinner or plan your family outings. Whatever you’re doing during September, you can fit in a few random ways to celebrate and create memories.

When I take the chance to look back on the month or year, it’s amazing how busy life feels, and yet, there are few distinct memories. I find that using these random holidays slows the rush of time and allows my family to create memories. These are the moments I want my children to remember. These memories are the times I’ll cherish the most. This is why I celebrate random holidays – to break up the constant hyperactive schedule and create lasting memories.

September Random Holidays – Categories

There are so many more random holidays for September, and I don’t intend to feature them all. In fact, I compile my list from several different sources. If you want to check out their list of holidays, I include a link to the websites below.

I also created a Google Calendar (below) featuring the holidays, which I share for free. I included instructions on how to add the calendar to your view. You can toggle it on and off so it doesn’t clutter your regular schedule.

In addition to the daily list of random holidays, I like to break the days into categories like food, outdoors, indoors, creativity and games, and then the catch-all category – “random holidays.” Let me know which Random Holidays are your favorites!

Outdoor-Related September Random Holidays

2 – Hummingbird Day
3 – Skyscraper Day
4 – Wildlife Day
21 – Miniature Golf Day
22 – Elephant Appreciation Day

4th Monday in September – Celebrate National Family Day

Whether you celebrate the outdoor holidays by playing miniature golf or at a zoo for Elephant Appreciation Day, or you stay inside and doodle skyscrapers and other wildlife, the significant part is that you make time to do something.

For me, it’s not necessarily the holiday; and it’s the fact that we take time as a family to pause our regular schedule and do something that will create a memory.

I created some animal wall prints to celebrate Wildlife Appreciation Day and Elephant Appreciation Day. What is your favorite animal, and does it have a random holiday?

Indoor-Related September Random Holidays

1 – World Letter Writing Day
6 – Read a Book Day
8 – International Literacy Day
9 – Teddy Bear Day
11 – Make Your Bed Day
13 – Roald Dahl Day
22 – Dear Diary Day

3rd Week in September – Nation Indoor Plant Week – I can’t keep my succulents alive, but I sure do like to doodle them.

I think you could combine Read a Book Day, Roald Dahl Day, and Teddy Bear Day into one big celebration. It’s a perfect excuse for choosing a good novel and cuddling with your favorite teddy bear. Or I could skip reading altogether and see a movie in the theater to celebrate National Cinema Day.

For “make your bed day,” I hate to admit this, but I hated to make my bed for years (even as an adult). When I started bullet journaling a few years ago, I also began studying habits that lead to making and breaking behaviors. Every month, I include habit trackers. I’m happy to admit that making the bed every morning is now a habit. Check out my other posts on habits & habit tracking.

Creativity/Games

8 – Ampersand Day
11 – Swap Ideas Day
12 – Video Games Day
14 – Live Creative Day
15 – International Dot Day – created to celebrate creativity. Check out the link in the calendar for more information! It sounds like a lot of fun. Take advantage to reignite your creativity.
16 – Play-Doh Day
23 – Checkers Day
24 – Punctuation Day
25 – Comic Book Day
25 – World Dream Day – What would that look like if you could change your dreams into reality?

3rd Full Week in September – National Keep Kids Creative Week

We seem to celebrate Video Game Day quite often. I’m pretty sure July also had a video game day. While researching random holidays, I found that anyone can submit a request to start their own holiday. Creating duplicate holidays is easy since there isn’t one registry for random holidays. Not that I mind, but I thought I’d share that fun fact.

My kids don’t mind celebrating Video Game Day more than once during the year. It’s certainly an excuse to goof around. Of course, you could list all the games you used to play or what you want to play. What an excellent idea for a bullet journal collection!

September Random Holidays (Holidays That Don’t Fit in My Other Categories)

These holidays don’t fit nicely into my other categories, but I do like these random holidays. I include links to the original sources below, so if you’re interested, you can always check out the origin of the holiday & find other ideas to enjoy the day.

1 – National Forgiveness Day
12 – Day of Encouragement
13 – Positive Thinking Day
19 – Talk Like a Pirate Day – Check out my Pirate-Themed Bullet Journal post for creative ideas in your planner.
22 – Hobbit Day

1st Friday of September – National Lazy Mom’s Day
1st Saturday of September – World Beard Day

Talk Like a Pirate Day is the holiday that started all the random holidays for our family. It’s been years since we started celebrating this random holiday every September 19th. That’s partially why I love random holidays. Add them to your calendar, celebrate them year after year, and let them become ingrained into your family’s memories. Before you know it, you have traditions all year long instead of just on the big holidays.

Random Holidays – Google Calendar

After celebrating different holidays for over a year, I decided to create a Google Calendar to see all the holidays I’d love to celebrate. It makes it easy to share creations, words, and ideas on social media and with friends and family. The best part about Google calendars is that you can toggle them on and off when you don’t want to see them.

If you click on the calendar item, it has a link to the source & relevant hashtags! I’m always evolving this calendar – and I will add calendar days or corrections all the time.

Tip: The calendar will show the current month, you can navigate to the month of your choice by using the arrows or dropdown.

If you want to add my calendar to your Google calendar:

  • Go to your Google calendars and click the + next to other calendars
  • Choose ‘add other calendars.’
  • Then click Subscribe to Calendar
  • After that, paste the text below in the “add calendar.”
  • Toggle the schedule on and off when you want to access it – that’s what I do.

I won’t list all the random holidays, but just the ones that work with ChocolateMusings.com – so, of course, you’ll see a lot of food, art, creativity & some miscellaneous holidays are thrown in as well.

That sounds fun. Here are some ways you can be creative!

  • Letter the name of the holiday (want to learn to hand letter? Here’s where to start handlettering.)
  • Write it in funky fonts (check out this post for ideas.)
  • Take a picture (I heard selfies are a thing 😜).
  • Doodle the holiday
  • Paint a picture of the holiday or you celebrating the holiday.
  • Write a blog post or journal entry.
  • Create a planner spread.
  • Create a color palette inspired by the holiday.
  • What imaginary character or Disney Princess would most likely celebrate this holiday?
  • What colors should we choose for this holiday?
  • Make a favorite dish or create a new recipe in honor of the day.
  • If the holiday had a mascot, what would it be?
  • Don’t let my ideas limit you. Find something that inspires you, and create!

If you don’t create anything – spend the time with your family or friends! It’s all about creating a better, more fulfilling life. I believe these silly, random holidays help add a little smile to your face and a bit more laughter to your days. Choose to add joy to your life.

What are Random Holidays?

Random holidays are not national holidays. Sometimes a company creates a holiday to promote their brand or product. (Like have a Coke day). Some holidays support a cause or charity. Most of the random holidays I chose for my Random Holiday Calendar are related to creativity, food, words, traveling (each state’s holiday is the day it became a state), and other fun holidays such as “International Talk Like a Pirate Day.”

At the bottom of this post, you’ll find a calendar with all of my curated Random Holidays. Don’t worry, I’ve included instructions so you can add this calendar to your Google calendar list so you won’t miss a chance to randomly celebrate! Toggle on/off the calendar as needed in your calendar list.

I hope you’ll join me in finding joy and good moments instead of focusing on worldly negativity. Choose a couple of random holidays to celebrate in the month with me and focus your attention on something that brings you joy.

What random holidays are you looking forward to the most in October?

I know I’m looking forward to National Homemade Cookie Day, National Be Nice Day/Do Something Nice Day, No Bra Day, National Dessert Day, and of course, National Chocolate Day.

This month is also National Sarcasm Awareness Month. Since sarcasm is my native language, I look forward to celebrating that all month long for sure!

To celebrate national homemade cookie day, I thought I’d share my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe if you can keep yourself from eating all of them, save a few and savor them on the chocolate day at the end of the month. FYI, they freeze really well as uncooked dough or after baking them.

I promise you’ll want to pin this one! Find the recipe below.

Food Holidays in October

I love to celebrate with food. In addition to homemade cookie day here are some more food holidays in October:

1- National Homemade Cookies day – see below for my favorite homemade cookie recipe.
4 – Cinnamon Roll Day
4 – Taco Day
13 – M&M Day
14 – Dessert Day
17 – Pasta Day – seriously, I love when national days make my dinner plans for me. What kind of pasta would you eat on pasta day?
18 – Chocolate Cupcake Day
21 – Apple Day
24 – Food Day – this random holiday is more than it seems. Rather than stuffing our faces full of food, it focuses on eating healthy and cutting back on unhealthy foods.
26 – Pumpkin Day – I’m not particularly eager to eat pumpkins, but I sure do like to decorate them. October is a perfect month to celebrate this decorative fruit!
28 – Chocolate Day
30 – Candy Corn Day
31 – Caramel Apple Day

If you’d prefer to celebrate all month long, satisfy your sweet tooth with National Caramel Month. If you don’t have a sweet tooth, try celebrating National Pizza Month instead.

Whether it’s the chocolate day on the 28th, or a random holiday celebrating chocolate cupcakes on the 18th, I know I’ll indulge a little in this sweet treat. There’s a reason why I named my blog ChocolateMusings.com. Though I won’t participate in Candy Corn Day (my teeth hurt just thinking about this overly sweet candy) I had to add this special Random Holiday to the October calendar for my kids. What are your favorite treats?

Creative Random Holidays in October

2 – Name your car day – what’s the name of your car?
6 – Mad Hatter Day
22 – National Color Day
25 – National Art Day / International Artists Day
28 – Animation Day

One idea to celebrate Name Your Car Day on the 2nd is to make a list of all the cars you’ve owned with their names in your bullet journal.

National Art Day/International Artists Day is on October 25th, and I’m excited to post some of my paintings on social media. Galaxy & moon landscapes are high on my love to paint list lately. There’s just something so relaxing about painting the night sky and watching the colors melt together.

Positivity/Self Care Random Holidays in October

5 – National Be Nice Day
5- National Do Something Nice day
7 – National Inner Beauty Day – don’t we all need a reminder to recognize our inner beauty?
13 – National No Bra Day – I’m not sure how many people would consider this day self-care, but I do! What’s your opinion about this day?
17 – Mulligan Day – seriously, look this one up. When I read what it meant, I knew I had to include it. Everyone deserves a second chance.
19 – Evaluate Your Life Day – enough said. Spend some time journaling or thinking about your goals. Then make your plans and live it out. Decide what you’d like to change. You could even celebrate Mulligan day a couple of days late and take a second chance!
29 – National Hermit Day – because sometimes you need a break from society to restore your mental health.

Monthly Holidays

All month long, you can celebrate “I’m Just Me Because…” and Emotional Wellness Month.

Every first Friday of October – celebrate World Smile Day
Every 4th Saturday of October – randomly celebrate Make a Difference Day

Get a handle on your finances during October’s Financial Planning Month. I don’t know about you, but when I have my finances under control, it’s always a reason to celebrate. I dedicate a lot of pages in my bullet journal to tracking finances but I also use an app called “You Need a Budget” (believe me, I’ve used many programs and have stuck with this one for several years). It helped save our finances during a year of unemployment. How do you track your finances?

Animal Celebrations

4 – World Animal Day
8 – World Octopus Day
20 – International Sloth Day – celebrate this day in two ways. The first by celebrating this slow-moving animal. The second way to celebrate is to slow yourself down and take a break from stress.
27 -Black Cat Day

All month long you can celebrate Bat Appreciation Month and Black Cat Appreciation month. I don’t know if there is a more perfect month than October for these Random holidays.

I love to doodle animals – to celebrate world animal day (and other various animal days), I created these fun animal outline pintables available in my shop!

Some other fun month-long random holidays to add to your October Calendar:

What Does August Mean to You?

I sure love the smell of a freshly sharpened pencil bouquet and newly opened chalk and erasers. Don’t you relish the sight of all those chiseled markers in various colors ready to call attention to reading, writing, and math questions? Where we live, August is the start of a brand-new school year. And we start early in the month, the first Monday!

I love school supplies partially because they go so well with my notebooks. But I have always loved them. I worked for an office supply store for a long time, and people knew to ask me questions about pens and paper because I was passionate about them. If you have a favorite pen or are picky about your notebook, then you know what I mean.

You can check out my list of favorite lettering supplies or bullet journal supplies in these posts.

New Schedules = Second Chances?

August also signifies the start-up of new schedules for the coming months for us. It’s almost like a second chance at the year! No matter when you start the school year here’s an opportunity to add some fun to your calendar with the random holidays for August.

Holiday Categories

I certainly don’t include all the Random Holidays for any given month, so you’ll find a list of websites at the bottom of this post that you can search for additional holidays that suit your family. I also created a Google Calendar, which is shared for free. Included underneath the calendar are instructions on how to add the calendar to your view. You can toggle it on and off, so it doesn’t clutter your regular schedule.

I like to break the Random Holidays into sections like food, outdoors, and other holidays. I hope you find something (or a few) to celebrate this August!

Week/Month Long Celebrations

Simplify Your Life Week. Now this is a week I can get behind. Use the time to refocus and declutter. Though we often think of ‘things’ to declutter NationalDayCalendar.com suggests decluttering anything (not just objects) that causes stress or anxiety. I’m definitely going to start with a list of things I can either eliminate or reduce in my life.

What are some ways you could simplify your life?

Be Kind to Humankind Week. Last Week in August. The touching story of why Lorraine Jara was inspired to create this week really hits home. How often have we ignored an opportunity to be kind to others? It’s one of my life goals to be more kind.

Random Food Holidays in August

2 – Ice Cream Sandwich Day
3 – Watermelon Day
4 – Chocolate Chip Cookie Day
6- National Root Beer Float Day – are you an ice cream or root beer first when creating this tasty recipe?
10 – S’ mores Day
18 – National Fajita Day – Yum! This is one meal my family doesn’t argue (too much) about when I fix it. I guess I know what’s on the menu tonight!
20 – National Lemonade Day
24 – Waffle Day
25 – Banana Split Day
29 – National Lemon Juice Day – when life gives you lemons, what do you make?

We love waffles in our house, so even though waffle day is celebrated more than once in the year, we don’t miss it! I know what we are having for dinner on the 24th.

Celebrating with food is the easiest way to highlight the day. Although I love to doodle or paint food, so making something to represent it is always an option!

16 – Roller Coaster Day

Which Random Holidays Will You Celebrate in August?

I hope you found some inspiration this August to celebrate some random holidays or to make something creative to break up the monotony of the day-to-day. That’s my goal with these random holidays every month. When I look back, I want unique memories that last instead of looking back and figuring out where the time went.

Be sure to add some fun days to your bullet journal or planner. It’s the only way I remember to celebrate.

July Random Holidays - add some fun, creative, & random holidays to your calendar | ChocolateMusings.com #julyrandomholidays #randomholidays #celebrate

Don’t you think that we all could need some random holidays to celebrate this July? I don’t know about you, but I know I need to take control of something in my life because it feels like everything is out of control. The only thing that I know that I have control over how happy I am – because I believe that happiness is a choice.

But choosing to be happy is tough some days! I’ve found that adding some random holidays to your monthly calendar helps create an excuse to be happy even when it’s tough.

This July, we have some fun random holidays to look forward to celebrating. Food days like lollipop day or junk food day are destined to provide a good laugh. By the way, I’d love to know which holidays you celebrate! Leave me a note and let me know which ones you added to your schedule.

Teach Yourself to Look on the Bright Side with Random Holidays

Teaching myself to look on the bright side of life isn’t easy! That’s why I decided to start celebrating random holidays. Celebrating a silly holiday is an excellent way for my family to smile and laugh. Like always, I choose to feature silly or food-related holidays, and of course, creative days! But there are many more random holidays that you could add to your calendar.

I invite you to choose some random holidays this July and add them to your calendar. You’d be surprised how adding little snippets of fun to your schedule improves your mood.

July is a special month for me – it’s my birthday month! I have a goal to focus on being happy and seeing the good this month. The other goal I have is to come up with as many puns as I can related to these July random holidays.

Find Other Random Holidays to Celebrate in July

You can toggle it on and off, so it doesn’t clutter your regular schedule.

It sure seems like we celebrate a lot of ice cream-related random holidays during June and July. Not that I’m complaining about the ice cream. On the contrary, I think whoever designated these holidays was very wise, and we should have more ice cream random holidays. If you like ice cream, check out my June Plan With me, it’s all about ice cream.

Side note, if you want to find out about the holiday’s origins, check out the links below, I link to each website source. And there are a lot more random holidays to celebrate, more than my little featured selection.

June Random Holidays – Add Some Fun, Creative, & Random Holidays to Your Calendar

June Random Holidays - add some fun, creative, & random holidays to your calendar | ChocolateMusings.com #junerandomholidays #randomholidays #celebrate

Summer is in full swing when the month of June hits our calendars. At least where we live. School schedules are quickly forgotten, but I love to add some June random holidays to celebrate to our calendar.

The holidays in June don’t disappoint, either. I love to separate the listed random holidays into different categories, as you can see below.

At the bottom of the post is a Google Calendar I created, which I share for free that includes my chosen random holidays. Don’t worry, I also included instructions on how to add the calendar to your view. You can always toggle it on and off, so it doesn’t clutter your regular schedule.

I certainly don’t include all the Random Holidays for any given month, so you’ll find a list of websites at the bottom of this post that you can search for additional holidays that suit your family. You can also check out the monthly archives.

The Random Holidays for June are separated into different sections like food, outdoors, and other holidays. I hope you find something (or a few) to celebrate this June!

Random Food Holidays in June

2 – Rotisserie Chicken Day – what’s your favorite chicken recipe? Mine is a good Chicken Salad recipe. Throw it on a croissant and I’m in heaven! Now, If only I could get my kids to eat chicken salad sandwiches.
3 – Egg Day
8 – Name Your Poison Day
11 – Corn on the Cob Day
17 – Eat Your Vegetables Day
22 – Onion Rings Day
29 – Waffle Iron Day

I know there are at least three random food holidays I plan to celebrate this June: corn on the cob day, eat your vegetables day and waffle iron day.

My kids LOVE vegetables, and that includes corn on the cob. Favorite veggies in our house are corn, cucumbers, steamed carrots, & lots of roasted vegetables like broccoli and asparagus. What are some of your favorites?

Anytime I have an excuse to do breakfast for dinner, I take it. The kids are also huge fans of waffles (well, two of them are, anyway). What better way to celebrate waffle iron day than plan dinner around this random holiday?

You could also paint some delicious-looking waffles to celebrate. I did that, too. When I was out west visiting family, we found a fun waffle chain called Waffle Luv. And boy, oh boy, did they have good waffles. I wish I could celebrate waffle iron day with them.

June Random Holidays to Celebrate Outdoors

Sometimes I need an excuse to go outside. I’m sure you know the feeling, it’s easy to stay inside after work and watch tv. These are a few excuses to get you outside and get you laughing. If not outside, then these June Random Holidays are excellent subjects for painting or doodling.

1 – Go Barefoot Day

About Me

Hi! I'm Tricia, the creative behind ChocolateMusings.com, I know how it feels to lose your inner muse. After years of darkness (which I call the dark ages of my life), I found my inner muse hiding in the forgotten corners of my soul, I vowed never to lose sight of her again.

Bullet journaling helped reignite the passion for art and living life again while organizing my days. I also discovered modern calligraphy and watercolor. Since then, my use of the bullet journal system has evlolved and I call it 'creative planning'. Here on the blog, I show you how to use your planner to ignite your inner muse and explore creativity and art while staying beautifully organized and living a joyful life.

I invite you to grab some good chocolate and dive into my musings. Let’s ignite your inner muse.

Read more on the about me page. You can also find my policies and disclosures here.
