August 2022 Plan With Me – Loose Floral Wreaths

Here’s the theme for August 2022’s Plan With Me: Loose florals in a wreath with even more loose watercolor. Plus, add floral stickers for ease and speed up the process.

Isn’t it crazy that during the times that we probably need planning and tracking the most, we neglect it? At least I do. Knowing that I use my bullet journal planner better when I include some ‘pretty’ elements, I decided to revert to an old favorite style.

August 2022’s Plan With Me Features:

This month’s plan with me features loose florals, looser watercolor paint, and stickers! I don’t normally use stickers, but they fit perfectly with the theme this month.

What a busy few months it’s been. We moved at the end of March and turned our lives upside down. Honestly, I’ve been striving so hard to return to a ‘normal-like’ state of being. I haven’t adequately kept track of my life since we started packing. Can I tell you that I am excited for the kids to go back to school? I’m partly glad the kids will be out of my hair (and out of their siblings!), but I’m excited about the daily routine.

If you’d rather browse through the gallery of images at your own pace, check out the gallery post. If you’d like to find out what inspired me for this month’s plan with me, read on.

Doodles – A Perfect Way to Get Out of a Funk

I included a few doodles this month in my planner. Partially to get me excited to use my planner again. (I use it so much better when I like the design.) Do you have something you know you need to do to bring yourself out of a funk? For me, it’s doodling.

Doodling flowers is easy – at least when I have a guide. I’m not the point of thinking about flowers and drawing from memory or thin air. So I usually need some inspiration. Check out the links below for posts on how to draw flowers or how to use flower doodles in your bullet journal.

Welcome Page

I drew one of my classic floral wreaths sprinkled with dark reds, a few yellows, and deep greenery – which I think are perfect colors for the end of summer and a nod to the fall colors to come.

Monthly Calendar

Using one of my favorite stencils, I created 2.5cm square boxes and scattered loose florals around the page, consisting of poppies, black-eyed susans (only I colored them blue instead of yellow), marigolds, and vines. By the way, if you’d like to add some fun, random holidays to your calendar, check out these August Random Holidays.

Habit Tracker

Aided by one of my all-time favorite tools – the Helix Circle Maker, I created a circular habit tracker with 4 habits and a few lilacs peeking around the habit tracker.

Brain Dump – Dubbed “Blooming Thoughts”

One of my favorite ways to disguise my brain dump page is to call it by a different name.  I call this month “Blooming Thoughts,” highlighted by a faux calligraphy title and mason jar with carnations.

Weekly Pages

Each page has the same design, which is my go-to weekly design. The planner layout is 4 cm (8 dots) wide and a good height to allow plenty of daily to-dos and appointments. Plus enough space at the bottom for weekly items such as meal plans, shopping lists, or weekly-related to-dos. Rather than drawing wreaths, I used floral wreath stickers from my shop.

Journal Page

I love a page where I can jot down funny quotes from my kids or essential things that happen during the month. This page is enjoyable because I used paint splatters all over the page in different, bright colors to finish it off.

Let’s Go!

In the words of my 13-year-old: Let’s GOOOOO! I look forward to getting my life back onto a regular schedule. I look forward to using my bullet journal planner to help organize my thoughts, calendar, and life.

I’d love to hear what inspired you this month or if you have a favorite page from my notebook. Happy planning!

The Easy Way to Draw Flowers With Marker Tips

How to create flowers {without drawing} + Video Tutorial | ChocolateMusings.com #florals #floral #draw #howto

The Easy Way to Draw Flowers (Without Actually Drawing!)

Drawing flowers without drawing them? Sounds like a trick, right? It’s not. Last week, I showed you how to create 3 simple circles for floral wreaths. Today, I wanted to show you the easy way to draw flowers without {actually} drawing them! Now you can add easy flower wreaths to your bullet journal or around quotes or add flower doodles… The possibilities are endless.

The Trick to Create flowers Without Drawing Tutorial | ChocolateMusings.com #howtodraw #drawing #flowers

Supplies Needed:

The only supplies you need for drawing easy flowers are a brush pen with a flexible tip and a piece of paper.

In my video, I used Tombow dual brush pens, but any other brush pen would work, too! A brush pen works well in this case because the marker has a pointy tip and a rounded base, kind of like a rounded triangle. The bigger the pen, the larger the flower. See below for some examples of easy flower doodles. Guess what? They’re all created without drawing and only using the tip of a brush pen. I even tried it with Crayola markers and they worked too!

Featured from left to right:

  • Sta Metallic Brush Pen
  • Sharpie Brush Pen
  • Crayola Markers (I know these aren’t a brush pen, but they seem to work, too)
  • Tombow Dual Brush Markers
  • Water pen with watercolor paint
  • Pentel Touch Brush Pens

Watch the video below to see how I draw flowers {without really drawing flowers} then make sure to hit subscribe!

Can’t see the video? Watch it on my YouTube Channel.

The Technique to Create Flowers Without Drawing Them:

Depending on the way you tilt your brush, you can make different shape flowers or leaves. Press straight down with the brush pen to leave an impression of the marker, like a stamp. Make sure you press down from the tip to the rounded base and lift straight up, so you don’t smudge it.

Point the tip inward to create a rounded petal shape. If you turn the pen the opposite direction so the tip points outward, you can create a leaf or a bud. I added a darker color on top, in some cases, for more contrast. You can blend the two colors together, but that’s not necessary. You can also choose to stack your petals closer together and create the look of a daisy or separate them out as well.

TIP: Just remember to push straight down and pull straight up with the marker tip – if you move side to side, you’ll leave a streaky mess.

Another fun detail to add once the marker is completely dry on the paper is to add loose outlines with a fine-tipped black pen. Then add in some extra details – like change the shape of the petals or add an interior layer of petals.

There are lots of ways to easily create flowers without drawing them! One other way is to add dots and specs of color like the freehand wreath below.

Floral Wreath Bullet Journal Theme – May 2019 Plan With Me

Floral Wreath Bullet Journal Theme – May 2019 Plan With Me

Have you ever had something you really wanted to try, but never did because you were afraid you wouldn’t be good at it? Practically everything I do starts as that thought in my head. This time it was drawing flowers. I really wanted to draw flowers. Outline drawings, watercolor paintings, floral wreaths, you name it, I want to create flowers. But I collected flower drawing & reference books instead of trying. I chose floral wreaths for my bullet journal theme this month and I’m happy to say that April showers bring May flowers!

I went a little flower doodle crazy and I’m super thrilled with the way they turned out. It gives me so many ideas for the future. In a way, this whole month is minimal. I love how elegant it looks and how it turned out. I hope you find some inspiration in my floral wreath bullet journal theme this month.

What’s in My Planner This Month:

I skipped the monthly welcome page (gasp!) partially because I stared at some blank pages and didn’t know what to do at first. The other part was that I was trying to conserve pages as I thought I could get two more months out of this journal, but I realized that I neglected my brain dump pages and review pages, and those pages are essential for keeping me organized and motivated, so I got a new notebook instead of trying to cram another month in the journal.

Circle Monthly / Calendar Wheel

If you’ve been around my blog in the past, you might have noticed that I like circles. The May monthly calendar doesn’t disappoint. Built around a partial floral wreath, I created a circular May monthly log. Then because I wanted a miniature calendar, I added a flip-out page which also has color codes. Thinking I would only use the flip-out for the monthly, at first I was pleased with the idea. Then I realized I can use it for all the weeklies to follow and now I’m a little giddy. I love it when something good turns into something fantastic.

The only thing I wish is that I would have kept the colors muted or not used as much of them. So use only a stripe of color instead of coloring the box in. I don’t think this will be the last of floral wreaths, a flip-out calendar or color codes. So, there’s always next time!

  • Floral Wreath Bullet Journal Theme | ChocolateMusings.com @ChocMusings #minimalist #blackandwhite #bulletjournal
  • Monthly Flip-Out Mini-Calendar and Monthly Color Codes | ChocolateMusings.com #flipout #planwithme #monthlycalendar

If you have only a few calendar items, the monthly log either in horizontal or vertical format (like mine for last April or December) or this circular format (also known as a calendar wheel) is a really fun change to display significant dates and a high-level overview for the month.

Habit Tracker

Instead of my usual circle habit tracker, I decided to go with a block format. Just so I didn’t have two facing circles across from each other. My favorite part about this page is the leafy vine wrapping around the words. Using a Tombow Brush Pen, I was able to get the thick and thin lines just like you see in calligraphy. Unlike the calendar facing page where each line on the flowers is the same width, the brush pen gives a little more character. I’m excited to track my habits this month!

Weekly Flower Wreaths

I LOVE floral wreaths. Flowers wrapped around a circle – what could be better? Creating floral wreaths was the inspiration for the entire month, and my goal was to make each day different. #missionaccomplished

I used different pens and pen thicknesses on each of these pages. My favorite: Micron 02 .30mm and Micron 03 .35mm. I also tried a black Papermate Flair pen and a .50mm Micron pen.

Tip: if you decide to watercolor the flowers, make sure you use an archival pen (like the Micron pens, not the Papermate Flair pen) if you ink before watercoloring. Otherwise, your black outlines will blend with your watercolors. And make sure the ink is completely dry before watercoloring. You can use the Papermate Flair pens after the watercolor is absolutely dry.

Miscellaneous Pages

Social Media Planning

I added a new page to the month – a social media planning page. Believe it or not, I have a lot more images I want to share each month than I post here or on my Instagram page. I create something a little special for Random holidays like Pick Strawberries day or Waffle Day and it never fails, I forget to share them!

All the Things

My journal page/memory keeper spread for the month. I love filling in details of the adventures we have as a family, what I learned & created for the month and other good things.

Seeds of Thought

The last page in my monthly pages is my brain dump page. I love coming up with names for brain dump pages that tie to my theme. For instance, February was a pirate theme & I called my brain dump spread “X Marks the Thought”. So this month, I called it “Seeds of Thought”.

I’m so excited to track and do all the things for the month of May. I love creative planning/bullet journaling because I can customize it and use it as a learning tool each month. I think you might see florals in the future. The moral of the story is, don’t let your mind convince itself that you can’t do whatever it is you want to do before you’ve even tried it.

I hope I’ve given you some ideas & inspiration to dress up your planner or bullet journal and try drawing some flowers & floral wreaths.

Wishing you joy and creativity every day - Tricia

About Me

Hi! I'm Tricia, the creative behind ChocolateMusings.com, I know how it feels to lose your inner muse. After years of darkness (which I call the dark ages of my life), I found my inner muse hiding in the forgotten corners of my soul, I vowed never to lose sight of her again.

Bullet journaling helped reignite the passion for art and living life again while organizing my days. I also discovered modern calligraphy and watercolor. Since then, my use of the bullet journal system has evlolved and I call it 'creative planning'. Here on the blog, I show you how to use your planner to ignite your inner muse and explore creativity and art while staying beautifully organized and living a joyful life.

I invite you to grab some good chocolate and dive into my musings. Let’s ignite your inner muse.
