January: Week 3 The Road Not Taken – Include Poems and Stories in your Layouts

Road Not Taken – How to Include Poems into your Pages I’ve never written many poems. The Haikus in literature classes in college and high school were about it for me. Maybe I am too wordy or I don’t feel strong enough in my word variances, but I never got into writing poems. Not saying that I wouldn’t like it, but I tend to use inspiring words from others in my creations. One thing I do enjoy is I’ll make up a story in my mind relating to the image in my journal. For instance, I made up a story […]

Bicycle Weekly using objects in your bullet journal designs

January Week #1 Bicycle Weekly – Using Objects in your Design

Using Objects in your Weekly Layout Bicycle Weekly I love the idea of using objects as functional pieces of my layout. I call this one ‘Bicycle Weekly’. Just so it adds some extra flair to the page and changes it up. Especially for the weeks I don’t have a lot of plans. This week was perfect because the kids wouldn’t go back to school until Thursday. So I used the big wheel from the bike to track weekly ‘to dos’ and appointments, the small wheel for dinner meal plans. I’m not saying that every week should be like this, but it […]

2018 Theme Word: Grow

2018 in a word: Grow

2018 in a word: Grow In November I started thinking about where I wanted to go in 2018. I’ve never had a theme for a year let alone a ‘word’ for the year. 2017 has been so momentous for me. It’s a wonderful feeling to rediscover yourself and finally feel like you are on the path of goodness in your life. That’s where 2017 led me. I found it by bullet journaling and once I started that, the creativity bubbled out once again. So why is my word for 2018 Grow? Why ‘Grow’? I tucked my creativity away years ago […]

December Mid-Month Habit Check

December Habit Tracker: Habit Check I started the mid-month habit check a couple of months ago, without thinking it would become a thing, but it was quite by accident. I’ve made a habit of checking up on my habits mid-month. I almost hesitate to call it a habit because me and habits (except the bad ones) don’t get along in the best way. Though I am trying to make friends with them. You know, start with casual conversation and work up to the ‘friends’ thing. I’d like to be friends, but they seem snobbish. Did I just seriously go there? […]

You'll Shoot Your Eye Out themed week in my Bullet Journal - Planning for the week before Christmas, handlettered & watercolor painted

December Week 4: Official Red Ryder Air Rifle – You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out

The Theme of the Theme! But Don’t Shoot Your Eye Out! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah the reason behind A Christmas Story movie – the Official Red Ryder carbon action two-hundred shot range model air rifle. How could I have A Christmas Story movie theme without paying homage to “you’ll shoot your eye out”?! I had a lot more included in the sketch – I had a quote from the original Red Ryder, but the drawing didn’t come out right, so I didn’t include it. Have you seen those gorgeous hand-lettered pieces of art where the text makes the shape of something (in this case, […]

December Week 1 - Fragile

December Week 2: Fragile

Fragile: It Must be Italian – Weekly Spread Probably the most iconic scenes from the movie, A Christmas Story: The Leg Lamp “It’s a Major Award”. Of course, my monthly theme from this movie needed a spread dedicated to this fragile mistress. I love how the wife is completely embarrassed. And how the demise of the lamp would be a source of family controversy for years to come. This spread was probably the most fun to draw and yet, the hardest. This Spread was Fragile in so Many Ways! I wanted a long, lean looking leg lamp but it got […]

And like that…It’s November – 1st Week of November – Minimal for Function

And like that…It’s November. What in the world? It’s November! I just got used to writing 2017 as the year. We are in the thick of holiday season (or very near to the thick – is that a thing?) and I am definitely relying on my minimalistic weekly designs to guide me through this busy time of year.  I decided this month to start at the beginning of the month instead of half the week’s spread from October and the other half as November. So I ended up with a couple of half-week layouts. I had big plans for the start […]

You, wake up, be incredible motivational quote

Emphasis on the RIGHT Words

I love lettering. That activity propelled me to get into finding and doing things that I love to help me be a better person. What is lettering? Lettering is a form of drawing each letter instead of writing. It’s called many things. Hand-lettering, modern calligraphy, faux calligraphy, lettering etc. There are many ways to letter a word, sentence, or quote by hand. Some choose a font on their computer and print it out. Each person has their own style. There are more fonts in the world than we could ever count. And I am not a pro {yet} by any […]

Colorful New York City building silhouette at sunrise and reflection | Bullet Journal Inspiration | Weekly Log

New York City Skyline Weekly Layout

I found a new love. Skylines. I sometimes play a game called “Cities: Skylines” but that is another story. For an Instagram challenge this month, I’ve done a couple skyline outlines and, well, it carried over to my weekly theme. My weeklies start on Monday. As I was planning the weeks, I noticed that 9/11 was on a Monday this year. The date stuck out to me. September 11 is very emotional to me. I truly consider it “the day the world stopped turning”. I remember watching in horror when the second plane hit the building after the first was […]

Power Word Art

Power Word Art

If you don’t know by now, I am a font nut. I love finding new fonts of all shapes & sizes. So participating in a lettering challenge affords me the opportunity to use a variety of fonts.  The @happyletteringchallenge #happyletteringchallenge for July has one word to letter everyday. Today was “Power”. I found a new font called Savaro Typeface on Creative Market that really fit the word ‘power’ in my opinion. Power to me means strength, authority, and confidence. I am not referring to power-hungry people, or those who use power for ill-will. But the power I think of is […]

June Creativity Challenges 2017

June 2017 Creativity Challenges

I think of a challenge as something that stretches your limits, makes you better, identifies points of weakness to enhance and perfect. June 2017 was my first month of participating in any sort of challenge on Instagram. I found several that I really enjoyed. Follow me on Instagram to see them as they happen! I participated in several challenges. I came in late to the game for a couple of them and I didn’t participate all days for all events so here are all my ‘entries’ if you may. I really look forward to future challenges and may eventually create […]
