Things to work on... Free Printable Exercise deciding what you need help with and what you are going to do about it.

What I Need Help With – and What I am Going to Do

Things I need to work on or What I need help with… There’s a question that sometimes is glazed over just like a tasty doughnut. I know I have done it and not just once. No, not glazed a doughnut, but ignoring things that I really want to work on or admit what I need help with. However, one day this last week, I was reading over the #planwithmechallenge prompts for October and this question jumped out. Since I have started bullet journaling I have seen so many improvements in my life. So I decided to take this question on. […]

Positive Perspective - snails painting and learning to look on the bright side, even after the worst seemed to happen

Look on the Bright Side – It’s About Perspective | Life in Comics

Life in Perspective So this happened yesterday. No, I did not randomly come across snails painting Mona Lisa portraits, but a painting of mine got smudged by a well-intentioned significant other. It was a painting for someone else. There’s no saving it, I will have to redo it. I went to bed last night trying to control my anger. I tried to keep things in perspective – that there are bigger problems in life. However, my subconscious was serving up dreams that would have said that I was angry. My vibrant dreams were riddled with me running away and crying. Perspective is […]

Hello October Welcome Page

Hello October – Smells Like Fresh Baked Apple Pie – Monthly Welcome Page

Hello, October. You smell like fall. You smell like freshly baked apple pie. If you don’t like apple pie, no worries, I’ll make apple crisp – you like that right? I’ll make extra topping. You sound like the leaves crunching under my feet and the cool, crisp fall nights perfect for stargazing near a fire as it crackles into the night and then slowly dies to embers glowing in the moonlight. Oh Hello, October. Hello, October. You taste like pumpkin spice. You feel like the cozy socks I’m always tempted to wear and the heat seeping through the mug of […]

You, wake up, be incredible motivational quote

Emphasis on the RIGHT Words

I love lettering. That activity propelled me to get into finding and doing things that I love to help me be a better person. What is lettering? Lettering is a form of drawing each letter instead of writing. It’s called many things. Hand-lettering, modern calligraphy, faux calligraphy, lettering etc. There are many ways to letter a word, sentence, or quote by hand. Some choose a font on their computer and print it out. Each person has their own style. There are more fonts in the world than we could ever count. And I am not a pro {yet} by any […]

Shimmering Watercolor hummingbird from 300 Drawing Prompts

Life Lessons from a Trapped Hummingbird

Life Lessons From a Trapped Hummingbird The other day I walked into a garage and a tiny hummingbird was struggling to find its way out. The tiny fellow kept flying up into the ceiling for hours. I tried opening just the garage door and turning off all the lights, and yet it did not recognize the solution to its predicament. The problem for the sacred bird was that it did not stop to see how he could get out. In this case, to be free, he needed to fly down and out. But it kept fluttering against the ceiling. […]

School lunch list planning bullet journal mind map layout

Easy School Lunches Need Two Things: the Right Container and a Plan

Making school lunches is a chore no more with a plan and the right container. If you are like me, the first day of school hits and I repeat over and over in my head “YAY! School is back in session! The kids are not driving me nuts anymore” That lasts all of 2 minutes. Because it hits me now: I have to make lunch for those munchkins because for one reason or another – school lunch is not an option in our family. Making school lunch is the bane of my morning. It is SUCH a chore! I have […]

Arrows Aim True – if you point them in the right direction

After creating a weekly spread with arrows, I kind of went nuts for the arrows and quotes. I’ve practiced my hand lettering over the past few months and writing quotes is always a fun way to practice! I have a long way to go, but I have come very far. I was getting frustrated for a while – simply not able to make thin upstrokes at all. After doing some research (ok a LOT of research), I found that Tombow Fudenosuke brush pens really helped me develop the light touch I needed. I’m not giving up on this endeavor anytime soon. I love it […]

Dream Mode of Transportation

My Dream Car

I stared at this page that said “Dream Car” for a long time trying to decide which make or model I would deem ‘my dream car’.  This page attracted me, yet the reason why it was so alluring baffled me. I don’t have a dream car. Growing up, I had a picture of a purple Prowler on my wall. I liked the look of the open wheels (if you’ve seen Cars 1, you might giggle at that). My husband desires a Tesla. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind one of those. But it is not a deep desire of my heart.  I would not have […]

old school cassette tape drawing

Mixed Tape: an analogy for life

Cassette tape drawing prompt from 300 drawing prompts book. I loved practicing the ribbon lettering and figuring out how it would twist and turn in order to form text.  Who remembers putting the label on the best mixed tape ever and the label keeps going on crooked no matter how many times you try to place it. You knew what songs were on it by heart 💓 and the crinkled label made it easy to pick out from the stacks of tapes laying around.  Those songs were recorded off the radio and always had DJ jabber over the beginning of […]

Listen to be better

Advice For My Younger Self

If you could go back in time exactly 10 years and give yourself advice, what would you tell yourself? I do not wish to change the past – because I feel that mistakes in the past, not just mistakes, all choices create us for who we are. But… if I could tell myself something 10 years ago – it would be to have more patience with my children. My oldest just turned 8 in June, so by going back 10 years, I’d be giving myself some time to figure out what patience truly is and how to develop it. And […]

Power Word Art

Power Word Art

If you don’t know by now, I am a font nut. I love finding new fonts of all shapes & sizes. So participating in a lettering challenge affords me the opportunity to use a variety of fonts.  The @happyletteringchallenge #happyletteringchallenge for July has one word to letter everyday. Today was “Power”. I found a new font called Savaro Typeface on Creative Market that really fit the word ‘power’ in my opinion. Power to me means strength, authority, and confidence. I am not referring to power-hungry people, or those who use power for ill-will. But the power I think of is […]

June Creativity Challenges 2017

June 2017 Creativity Challenges

I think of a challenge as something that stretches your limits, makes you better, identifies points of weakness to enhance and perfect. June 2017 was my first month of participating in any sort of challenge on Instagram. I found several that I really enjoyed. Follow me on Instagram to see them as they happen! I participated in several challenges. I came in late to the game for a couple of them and I didn’t participate all days for all events so here are all my ‘entries’ if you may. I really look forward to future challenges and may eventually create […]

Find Your Inner Muse

300 Prompts for Writing & Drawing Plus a Sketchbook

We were out on a family adventure one Saturday. As we stepped into the sweltering heat of the near noon-day sun, I realized that we needed to get some sunscreen. {I have three very fair children and a husband who is fair as well – I can’t believe we forgot the sunscreen!} I had some at home, but we were too far away to turn back. I saw a Target on the way and we stopped in. After finding the necessary sunscreen, I wandered over to the notebook section – a place I often find myself in any retail store. […]

Do not push the annoy mom button

I’m Not a Bad Mom…But More Gratitude Please

There are days when I feel like I have a giant “annoy mom button” and pushing it is the most tempting thing in the world. My kids (ages 7, 5 and 4 months – but this is about the 7 and 5-year-old), like to tease each other and tattle on each other and do the things that siblings who are 2 1/2 years apart like to do. The problem is, they drag me into the mix! When they are finished annoying each other, they see a new, fresh target and set their sights on easing their boredom by asking me for […]

Bullet Journal Challenge Tracking Calendar

Creativity Challenges – Favorite Fiction Character, Planning Signifier & Hobbies

June 2017 # 4 #BohoBerryChallenge #PlanWithMeChallenge #RockYourHandwriting My challenge responses for June 4, 2017. I don’t know that I can handle more than 3 at a time – the problem is – I do them and forget to post them! So I made a calendar in my Bullet Journal to track where I’ve posted my challenges. Making it pretty was just a bonus. I practiced some blending on the letters with my Tombow Dual Brush Pens. I think it looks like a sunset – and makes me think of summer. The plan with me challenge was to show “My Signifiers” – I […]

Lord of the Donuts

It’s National Donut Day! {First Friday of June} The line wrapped around Krispy Kreme Doughnuts was quite insane. Cars coiling around the building, the line of people venturing into the building was out the door. But the smell. Oh the smell. It draws you in like siren calls for a sailor on the sea, succumbing to the sweet vice. You couldn’t leave, even if you wanted. The “hot and now sign” was lit up in the window, we could see the conveyor cooking system through the window double-timing doughnut production to keep up with the demand. It was all intoxicating. We got […]

Live life more fully today than you did yesterday

Discovering My Inner Muse

Live life more fully today than you did yesterday. Original quote by me. I have seen many YouTube videos and read {the excerpts of} books suggesting to choose just one word to theme your year/life around. I liked this sentence more than I liked just a word for a mantra. But I guess if I were to squash that sentence down into one word, it would be “INSPIRE”. I want to help other people grow into more than what they were, see that they have the potential to do so much more than they have been. I think I have […]
